Your site today

Your home page on a phone today

In Google's phone test, pages take 6 to 11 seconds to show their main content.

Google considers 2.5 seconds good.

Safety Hero pages are the slowest, at 11.2 seconds.

The Safety Hero banner is hidden on phones.

The phone header takes up half the screen.

Fix first

  1. Safety Hero pages

Biggest delays: the booking calendar and the Maps script.

  2. Phone experience

Banner back on screen, compact header, products on the first screen.

  3. Images

About 3.7 MB to save on the home page, with no visible change.

The details

Your Safety Hero pages are the slowest of the 6 pages we tested

High priority

The products page takes 11.2 s on a phone, the demo booking page 10.9 s, and on the booking page scripts keep the phone busy for a total of 4.4 s (the booking calendar alone weighs 2.9 MB).

Fix: load the calendar only when the visitor reaches it, and remove what these pages load for nothing.

Phone visitors don't see the Safety Hero banner, but still download it

High priority

On a phone the home page banner is switched off (the block carries a hidden-phone class), so the page goes straight from the header to Safety Snacks. Its image is still downloaded: 1.6 MB, 2837 px wide, shown at 1350 px on desktop.

Fix: a phone-sized banner (well under 200 KB) shown on mobile, and a lighter desktop file.

Desktop: the banner opens the page.

Phone home page with no Safety Hero banner

Phone, first screen: no Safety Hero.

On a phone, the header takes half of the first screen

Medium to high priority

Top links, logo, phone number, BBB badge, menu bar and search fill the top half. At phone size, the first product starts 597 px down an 823 px screen.

Fix: one compact mobile header (logo, call button, menu, search), BBB badge moved lower.

Google Maps holds up 4 of the 6 pages we tested

Medium priority

A Google Maps script of about 390 KB (address autocomplete) loads first and blocks the display on the category, Safety Hero, booking and registration pages. Google estimates about 5 s of delay from blocking files on those pages.

Fix: load it only on the address step, in the background.

Images are far heavier than they need to be

Medium priority

The home page loads 57 images weighing 6 MB; Google estimates 3.7 MB could be saved. The heaviest product thumbnails are 250 to 335 KB, the main Carhartt photo 1.2 MB.

Fix: resize and convert to WebP once, through CS-Cart thumbnails or Cloudflare.

29 outside services load with the home page

Medium priority

Tag Manager, Analytics, Google Ads, Bing, Facebook, Twitter, Clarity, Zoho chat, forms and CRM, Searchanise, BBB. The Zoho chat script is the heaviest on the page (about 320 KB). On a phone, the processor stays busy for 3.9 s, 2.1 s of it running scripts.

Fix: keep the tracking you use, delay chat and social widgets until the page shows, remove the rest.

Also worth fixing

Smaller items
  • Code from 2013-2014 still running: jQuery 1.9.1, Bootstrap 2, a second jQuery loaded on top, theme files tagged ver=4.2.1. The reason for the planned move to the current CS-Cart.
  • Zoom is disabled on phones by two of the page's three viewport tags.
  • Registration is hidden behind the sign-in form, and its email and password fields have no labels. Your new registration design fixes the flow.
  • The Safety Hero products page is titled "Low Minimum Products". Worth a check.
  • The mobile search box showed "16gb ram dual-slot SODIMM..." in Google's test, likely a popular-search suggestion fed by bots.
  • A web font is refused by the browser on every page, and Clarity's data calls timed out three times on the home page.
  • The price table is wider than a phone, and the sale price replaces every quantity tier, so the volume discount disappears during the sale. Pricing is your call; we only flag it.

What I could not see from outside

  • Real visitor data. Google publishes no field data for your site (traffic below its threshold), so these are lab tests. Analytics and Clarity will show what real visitors experience.
  • Why sales dropped 30%: fewer visitors or fewer buyers. That answer is in Analytics, Search Console and Google Ads.
  • Anything behind a click: cart, Quote Builder, customization, checkout. Deliberately not tested.
  • The Zoho integration, which runs on the server side.
  • The real PHP and CS-Cart versions. CS-Cart 4.2.1 normally runs on PHP 5; to confirm on the dev copy.
  • Your firewall blocked us from Paraguay and from a US data center, so the tests ran through Google's tool and a US connection. If Canadian buyers matter, worth checking the same rule does not catch them.
